The Overnight Walk

Since we are all about reaching out and helping others, I think it is time I share with you something very dear to my heart.

Suicide is something many of us have come across at some point in our lives.  Whether it is a friend or family member who has committed suicide, or a friend of a friend who has attempted to take their own life, suicide is a serious matter.  In fact, it is much more prevalent than one would think.

I lost my brother to suicide in 1998 and it has been a rough time dealing with the pain.  I know that there are many people out there who suffer from a similar loss.  But we are all survivors.  We may be strong, but it is important to take the time to unite with others who can relate as a matter of comfort.  More often than not we tend to feel alone, but we are NOT alone at all.

It is also important to unite for the sake of awareness -- it is the only way we can prevent further suicides from happening.  We are here to love and support, not to judge.  Therefore, it is my honor to participate in the Overnight Walk this year (for the second time) in memory of my brother, Michael Ly.

The Out of Darkness Overnight is a 18-mile fundraising walk throughout the night, designed to raise funds and to make a bold statement to bring the issue of suicide into the light.  The Overnight is organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education.  It is also dedicated to reaching out to people with mood disorders and those affected by suicide.

In order to participate in this walk, each team member has to raise at least $1000.  Please support me and my team by donating a dollar or more to any of the following links : :

Marie Zagada
Gwyneth Williams

Samantha Samuel
Stephanie Ly ( team captain)

Thank you for caring, and may you live a happy and healthy life.

Love, Steph and Michael
